Rebecca Acheampong honored by the Graduate School at UPSA.

The School of Graduate Studies at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Accra, has recognized Rebecca Acheampong as the top graduate student overall for 2022 for her outstanding academic achievements over the 2021–2022 academic year,At the 14th Congregation of UPSA, Becca, a musician from Ghana whose real name is Rebecca Acheampong, was named Best Graduating Student for the one-year Masters in Brands & Communications Management program. Becca graduated with an FCGPA record of 3.92. She received a prize package including a laptop and other mementos in addition to an award plaque.

“We are here to acknowledge your good commitment to academic excellence and to announce to the world your exceptional accomplishment,” Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, said at a brief presentation ceremony on Tuesday, September 27.

“We’ve had a lot of celebrities enrolling in UPSA in recent years, but some of them couldn’t cope with the high academic standards of the University. We are therefore proud of your achievements and would like to congratulate you on this great feat.”

Prof. Mawutor pushed the well-known performer to pursue doctoral-level postgraduate courses in order to reach greater heights and not rest on her laurels. He declared that the UPSA Management is dedicated to enlisting and keeping excellent academics and business professionals who would advance the body of knowledge and aid in the dissemination of information.

“We will urge you to pursue a PhD programme right away, after which we will expect you to come back to UPSA to facilitate and teach the future generation, and share with them your rich wealth of knowledge and experience,” Prof Mawutor said.

Miss Acheampong responded by thanking the Vice-Chancellor, the School of Graduate Studies, and the university administration for the accolade, which “she would cherish for the rest of [her] life.”

She invited show business personalities to use their artistic skills to other untapped sectors of endeavor as she dedicated the prize to them.

“A lot of people often underestimate us, and I tell people all the time that creative people are so intelligent and smart,” she said. “Their ability to curate is something really special. And so, I want them to remember that they can also do it if they are determined and focused.”

The award-winning songstress also praised Dr Ibn Kailan Abdul-Hamid, Coordinator for the Brands and Communications programme, for his unflinching support and guidance throughout her studies.
