Special voting is currently taking place at selected polling sites around Ghana, marking an important stage in the run-up to the December 7 general elections.
This activity, which is geared toward persons who will play critical roles on election day, is intended to allow them to vote early and ensure their availability for election duties.
The Special Voting is largely directed at electoral officials, security professionals, and media representatives who will be actively involved in the general election process.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that roughly 131,478 people, or 0.007% of the entire registered electorate of 18,741,159, are likely to take part in this vital exercise today, December 2.
Special voting is now going place in 14 of Ghana’s 16 r
egions, omitting the Eastern and Western Regions. The lack of voting in these two regions is due to an EC decision to recall and reprint ballot papers following an alleged violation of security seals.
To ensure the integrity of the process, special voting in the Eastern and Western Regions has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5.
During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, the EC’s Chairperson, Jean Mensa, assured the public that the voting process was credible and efficient.
She reiterated the EC’s commitment to addressing all concerns, maintaining openness, and conducting a free and fair election.
The Special Voting exercise takes place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at specified polling locations throughout the 14 areas. To participate, eligible voters must produce acceptable identification to polling officials.
Unlike with ordinary voting, ballots cast during Special Voting will not be counted on the same day. Instead, they will be safely held and counted on December 7 at Constituency Collation Centers.
These results will be noted separately on Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms before being merged into the total election results.
