Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian media for their indispensable support of both his political campaigns and the country’s progress.
If elected in the general elections of 2024, he pledged that an NPP-led government will respect media freedom and would keep tight ties with the press.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists on Sunday, August 25, in Accra, Dr. Bawumia stated, “The NPP views the media as a crucial partner in national development.”
“In our quest to expand the frontiers of democratic governance in Ghana, it was thus the NPP under former President J. A Kufuor that repealed the criminal libel law for the media to function fully. The NPP will continue to partner with the media and ensure media freedom.
“We’re partners with you and the partnership I will continue to keep, as the new leader of the NPP. We’re committed to deepening media freedom.”
