Nana Yaa Brefo is venting her annoyance at having to spend her night outside because of “dumsor.”
The Ghanaian TV host is voicing worries based on her experience with the government’s and the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) seeming lack of commitment to resolving the power issue, which is negatively impacting companies.
Nana Yaa Brefo urged the government to provide a schedule for power outages so that people may organize their daily routines and prevent inconveniences in a video that she posted on her Instagram page.
“What nonsense is this? My lights just went out. They turn it off for two hours and then back on for a brief period. I had to spend midnight outside due to the heat. They are offering flimsy excuses. The government should issue a timetable so we know when the power will be off,” she exclaimed.
“What kind of nonsense is this? If there’s a problem, tell us so we can adjust. Because of this, we can’t even plan, and there’s insufficient air these days too,”
Many people, including politicians and well-known Ghanaians, have expressed worry recently regarding the erratic power supply in some areas.
In reaction to Ghana’s current power crisis, actress and activist Yvonne Nelson has also turned to Twitter to call for a second #DumsorMustStop vigil.
On April 22, 2024, Nelson tweeted at Imani Ghana, a civil society organization, asking them to collaborate on a new protest. She emphasized the important role IMANI played in the previous campaign’s accomplishments.
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said that his administration should be commended for having avoided “Dumsor,” or power outages, for seven years after taking office during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2024.
The ECG and the government have declined to execute a load-shedding program, attributing the inconsistent power supply to ongoing repair projects.
