After a disagreement about the location and type of rituals to be done as part of the celebration of this year’s annual Yam festival, there was uncertainty at Nkwanta in the Oti Region on Saturday.
Numerous locals have sustained injuries as a result of the tragedy.
According to accounts, one guy who had reportedly been stabbed was in severe condition.
A few stores and homes were targeted for destruction.
The confusion reportedly started as a result of a disagreement between two tribes over the venue for the Yam festival and the nature of the rites to be performed as part of the festival.
Some residents have fled the area for safety.
