Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, an entertainment critic and frequent program analyst, has replied to an insult hurled at his colleague, Stonebwoy, by dancehall musician Shatta Wale.
Stonebwoy recently revealed his opinions on how Ghanaian artists might reach international success comparable to their Nigerian counterparts in an online debate. A chat with TV personality Berla Mundi that took place on Twitter.
In reaction to Stonebwoy’s remarks, Shatta Wale slammed his teammate, calling him a “curtain raiser.” Shatta Wale accused Stonebwoy of caving in to Nigerian pressure, seeking publicity, and imitating Burna Boy’s actions.
Arnold Baidoo slammed Shatta Wale for his critical comments and reactions on UTV Showbiz Night, adding that there is nothing wrong with being a curtain raiser.
He noted that Ghanaian musicians frequently preach togetherness and solidarity among peers but fail to put it into practice. Such negative tales and demeaning comments stymie musicians’ and the Ghanaian music industry’s advancement.
He also questioned Shatta Wale’s present standing in the music market, claiming that Stonebwoy will not attain worldwide fame like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and others. Baidoo emphasized the contradiction between campaigning for unity and disparaging other artists who struggle to represent Ghana.
“He is throwing jabs, there is nothing wrong with being a curtain raiser. Global Citizen concert, Stonebwoy was a curtain raiser and he didn’t die. He got paid
“Let’s assume Shatta Wale is the biggest artist in Ghana, What is his position really now in the music scene, You claim to preach unity yet you turn around to belittle your colleagues who are putting in the work to represent Ghana.
“We get bashed for coming out to speak the truth, but these same artists are the ones bringing divisions, how do we thrive as a nation when we cultivate such ill attitudes”
Finally, Baidoo emphasized the significance of telling the truth and confronting bad attitudes in the music industry in order to create progress and togetherness in Ghana’s music scene.
