Gloria Carter, Jay-Z’s mother, has formally married her longtime lesbian partner, Roxanne Wilshire, whom she has been dating since 2018.
Gloria’s friends and family attended the ceremony in New York over the weekend, including her son, Jay-Z, and his wife and fellow artiste, Beyoncé, as well as singer, Kelly Rowland; Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson; movie mogul, Tyler Perry, and Robin Roberts.
Remember that Jay-Z first revealed his mother’s sexual orientation to him on his 2017 tune, ‘Smile,’ which was the first time either of them had publicly acknowledged her sexual orientation.
During an interview with David Letterman on Netflix’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,” Jay-Z said that he was overjoyed to learn that his mother had fallen in love with Wilshire.
“Imagine having to live your life as someone else and you think you’re protecting your kids”, he said in 2018.
“For her to sit in front of me and tell me ‘I think I love someone,’ I really cried…I cried because I was so happy for her that she was free.”
Jay-Z continued by describing what happened next was extremely emotional for him: “I cried, that’s a real story. I cried because I was so happy for her that she was free.”
