Pascaline Edwards, an award-winning Ghanaian actress, has stated that acting does not pay and that young individuals in the film industry should supplement their acting with other side activities.
She believes that any of her colleagues who claim to have made a lot of money through acting are lying.
The actress stated on Onua FM’s ‘Adwuma Adwuma’ with Felicia Osei that the movie industry alone would not be able to offer someone with the money needed to buy a house or establish a business.
“Whoever in the industry says they’ve made a fortune from making movies is a liar,” she said.
Acting, according to Pascaline Edwards, is a passion-driven vocation that can propel you to celebrity status.
“The movie industry propels you to a certain level. It gives you a brand. You may get Brand Ambassadorial deals and endorsement which can be lucrative but the income from the movies and set is inadequate,” she pointed out.
She also advised young people and aspiring performers not to rely just on movie money and to diversify into other profitable industries.
“If you have to sell groundnut and maize as your regular day job do that and add the acting as your side hustle because it’s really a hand-to-mouth industry,” she said
Pascaline Edwards was voted Ghana’s Best Female Actress in 2002 and is known as a legendary actress who performed a number of diva roles during her career.
