Razak Kuampa Avoliya, the Suame Constituency Youth organizer of the National Democratic Congress, has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Asokwa, Ashanti Region.
the Court denied the accused person’s counsel’s request for bail, stating that the subject is of national security concern.
Razak Avoliya was arrested, charged, and jailed on Wednesday after being handed over to police by party executives. In a viral video, the Suame Youth Organizer is seen inciting NDC supporters to wreak havoc on members of the New Patriotic Party in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
The executives were accompanied by party supporters to the Ashanti Regional Command and then to the Suntreso District Command, where he was detained. Party supporters in the Ashanti Region gathered at the Asokwa District Court on Thursday to see the party’s controversial Youth Organizer in the Suame Constituency appear in court. The lawsuit has been postponed until February 14th, 2023.
The suspect’s lawyer, Evans Amankwaah, maintains that neither his client nor the party is bothered by the detention. “His caution and charge statement has been taken. They charged him with offensive conduct, and we are to go to court [today]. We will cooperate with the law.
The detention does not perturb us. He is not worried, and I assure the supporters of the NDC that, the youth organizer is in high spirits.” The NDC’s national organiser, Joseph Yammin, supported the NDC Suame Youth Organizer’s views and stated that his detention will not scare the party.
“We are not in any way going to be intimidated by the police or the arrest. As we have massed up here, we will be coming anytime the police takes an action. What we are expecting them to do is to extend the equal measure to the NPP. I am sure that the court will have no reason to detain our brother.”
