The Northern Regional Health Directorate advises parents to immunize their children against measles.
According to the directorate, the Ghana Health Service has registered 15 suspected cases in that region alone for 2023.
Despite the fact that there have been no deaths, Dr. Braimah Baba Abubakari, Regional Health Director, feels there are enough immunizations to battle the disease and that parents should take a role in combatting it.
Dr. Braimah added that all parents should get their children vaccinated against measles on a regular basis.

“We provide roughly 13 different vaccines to the children depending on their age as part of thier regular immunization.”
Previously, there were rumors of a vaccination scarcity in the region following the detection of cases in four districts: Karaga, Sagnerigu, Tamale, and Gushegu.
In certain health institutions, children had to be put on oxygen due to severe cases.
since the middle of 2022, general vaccination delivery to the Northern Region has been irregular.

Checks in the region prior to the recent shipment of vaccines revealed that only two of the 13 vaccines for routine immunization, Tetanus and Tuberculosis, were in stock.
Citi News obtained confirmation of measles infections from a release issued by the Regional Health Directorate and addressed to all District Health Directors.
“Given the current season, which offers one of the biggest dangers for the transmission of measles, Districts Health Directorates and Facilities (both public and private) are asked to enhance surveillance on measles and other diseases of epidemic potential for early response should they occur.
Due to a measles outbreak, the central hospital in Tamale’s Paediatric unit was closed in 2022.
