Why is Bawumia scolding a ‘lazy’ man? Paga Agenda 111 contractor issues

Perfectionists, tremendously motivated people who never settle for anything less than the best, tend to be the greatest humans who ever lived.

Ordinary folks do not leave histories. To live on in eternity, one must be extraordinary, as this is the way to greatness.

For a country accustomed to the ordinary, even the mediocre, seeking perfection is frowned upon and may even earn you a bad reputation.

Yet, that is precisely what we require, because Ghana is caught in a rut caused by decades upon decades of mediocrity being normalised amongst the citizenry and leadership alike.

During a recent tour of the Upper East Region, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia highlighted why he stands out among the country’s lawmakers in one telling moment.

Inadequate Progress

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia chastised an obstinate contractor in Paga, Kassena- Nankana West District, for the poor pace of construction of a newly planned hospital in the area as part of the government’s Agenda 111 project.

During a site inspection, the Vice President was disappointed with the pace of progress and expressed his displeasure in no uncertain terms.

Bawumia

I am very concerned that this project is not moving at the pace it should be moving, and we have to say that, as it is. I wish I could say that I was happy with the progress,” The Vice President stated unequivocally.

The progress is not satisfactory, and I have said that to the Consultant who has briefed me, and he said the same, that it is not satisfactory. We need to be making more progress than this, so we are going to encourage the Contractor to really get on, and get this thing back on schedule because we are behind schedule,” he added.

The Vice President’s rage comes as the project has been moving at a snail’s pace since the ground was broken in February 2022.

Bawumia appeared to be a final choice for residents who had protested about the poor pace of development to little avail. The Vice President took steps to correct the situation and get the project back on track.

Expecting Perfection

Ghana’s Vice President is a well-known excellent public speaker. Bawumia, a terrific storyteller from the podium, is easily mistaken for a slick talker.

But, as he has proved over the course of his private and public career, he is also obsessively adept at getting things done.
