The Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces have assured the people that strong measures are in place to stabilize the situation in response to the rising violence in Bawku and along the Bolgatanga-Walewale-Tamale highway.
Security forces are stepping up their presence in impacted areas in the wake of recent violence in Bawku following the return of a rival chief and an ambush on travelers that left eight people dead.
Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a rival chief who had been exiled, came to the region, reigniting the carnage in Bawku, a long-running war stoked by chieftaincy conflicts.
Following this return, there was a resurgence of hostility between the factions, which resulted in violent altercations and numerous fatalities.

Armed men set up roadblocks along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, especially at Gbimsi, as a result of the war, specifically targeting travelers from the Bawku region.
Eight persons tragically lost their lives as a result of the highway attacks, while other automobiles were destroyed.
With an emphasis on upholding law and order while guaranteeing traveler safety, the security services announced in a statement that combined police and military forces had been deployed to handle the situation in Bawku and safeguard the Bolgatanga-Walewale-Tamale highway.
They have underlined that the goal of the security guards stationed along the route is to control traffic, ensure safe travel, and stop additional acts of violence.
