Popular Nigerian Afrobeat musician Patoranking recently lost his younger sister Chioma Onuabuchi and her husband George in a gas explosion in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. This was a heartbreaking family loss for Patoranking.
The Ebonyi State Police Command reports that the event happened on August 25 in Abakaliki near the waterworks. The couple perished in an explosion caused by gas, not an inverter battery explosion as first believed, according to early investigations, which were disclosed by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Joshua Ukandu, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“It happened on the waterworks axis in Abakaliki on August 25. The residents living around the scene called the attention of our personnel who visited the place, but the couple had already been taken to the hospital. It’s very unfortunate that both finally died. The wife, Chioma, died sometime in August, while the husband died this month, September,” Ukandu said.
Also, the police spokesman confirmed Chioma’s relationship to Patoranking. He stated, “We gathered that the wife was a younger sister to the popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Patoranking.”
Furthermore, a deceased couple’s relative—who wished to remain anonymous—described the tragedy as a devastating loss for the family. They were a youthful pair. Their three-year-old boy was their only kid. I have nothing further to say, please. I am unable to elaborate further. The relative answered, “They’ve left.
