In an unexpected turn of events, Ghanaian actor and politician Prince David Osei has announced his endorsement of his colleague, John Dumelo, in the approaching general election.
John is running for the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) platform, which is Prince’s major competitor, the New Patriotic Party. This decision is made despite Prince David Osei’s close affiliations to the NPP, where he actively supports Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and other NPP parliamentary candidates.

In an honest interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHONE TV, the renowned actor explained that his decision to support John Dumelo derives from his displeasure with the current Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Lydia Alhassan. Prince stated that he felt disrespected by Alhassan following his earlier efforts to lobby for her. This experience has inspired him to assist Dumelo, a creative industry colleague and friend.
When questioned why he is making such a dangerous decision, the movie star stated that his decision to support Dumelo stems from his desire to see someone from the creative arts field represent their interests in parliament.
“If John goes to Parliament it’s one of us. It’s a representation of the creative arts industry. We stood on platforms to campaign for the woman the last time and she was ungrateful. So even do am fully blooded NPP, I will campaign for John,”
He said.
He brazenly claimed that he is unconcerned about the negative consequences of supporting an opposition candidate. His commitment to his friend and belief in the need of having a creative industry representative in Parliament exceed his political affiliation.
This endorsement adds a new layer to the already intense fight for the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat, emphasising personal relationships and industry links that can sway political outcomes.
