Allegations that the Ministry of Health paid Ghana Auto Group Limited $34.9 million for the provision of spare parts have been categorically refuted.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, made the allegations, claiming that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, former Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, and the private company conspired to defraud the state through a $34 million ambulance spare parts procurement deal.

The Ministry of Health refuted these claims in a statement released on Thursday, July 25, and said it would back any initiatives that would better clarify the situation.

“The Ministry of Health would like to clarify that the Service Provider, Ghana Auto Group Limited, has not been paid an amount of $34.9 million as widely reported.”

“All documentation covering this transaction is a matter of public record and can be accessed by the public. The Ministry of Health is ready to support any effort that will bring further clarity to this issue in the interest of the public.”

Reiterating its commitment, the Ministry will set up a maintenance schedule that is sustainable for all fleets purchased for the National Ambulance Service.

“In order to provide dependable, effective, and secure emergency medical services, the Ministry of Health is dedicated to guaranteeing a sustainable maintenance regime for all fleets procured for the National Ambulance Service.”
