WHAT HAPPENED?
Earlier this week, Sport reported that Barcelona was close to signing Nazareth for roughly €500,000 (£424,000/$538,000). On Thursday, the European champions made the formal transfer announcement.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
With Mariona Caldentey joining Arsenal, Barcelona needed attacking reinforcements, and few are better suited to fill the position than 21-year-old Nazareth. The Portuguese great can play both centrally and out wide, and he helped Benfica win all four domestic trophies last season.

DID YOU KNOW?
Nazareth becomes the most expensive player in the women’s team’s history, surpassing previous world record holders Keira Walsh and Ewa Pajor, who joined from Wolfsburg this summer.

WHAT NEXT FOR KIKA AND BARCELONA?
Barca, who completed the quadruple last season, have already added England goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck and Pajor in the transfer window.
