1 Min Read

In response to the government’s refusal to pay outstanding debts for three academic terms, caterers in the Ashanti region participating in the government’s school food program are threatening to go on strike.
The caterers, who have expressed dissatisfaction and disappointment, claim that despite multiple broken promises from the government, they have not received any payment between September 2023 and June 2024.

Their inability to pay their creditors—some of whom are threatening to have them arrested—is negatively impacting their business operations, as they bemoan the state of affairs.
Therefore, they have given the government till Wednesday, June 26 at midnight to make sure the funds reach their account, or else they would become enraged.
According to a report by education think tank Africa Education Watch, the school feeding program’s budget must be increased by 200 percent in order to provide participants with nutritious food.
Kofi Asare, the executive director of Africa Education Watch, stated that GH¢3 billion is required to keep the program running.
