Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) should be used in agriculture, according to Kwasi Korboe, CEO of the Ghana Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (GIRSAL).
Speaking at the Citi Business Festival Agribusiness Forum, Kwasi Korboe emphasized the many benefits that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) provide, especially in terms of lowering the usage of dangerous chemicals.
“GMOs have their benefits. There is no body of evidence to the contrary,” Korboe stated.
“The reality is that even GMO minimises our use of chemicals which cause lots of problems for us. This mass hysteria is a storm in a tea cup.”
The safety and environmental effects of GMOs are still being debated, as evidenced by Kwasi Korboe’s remarks.
Genetically modified crop proponents contend that their products can boost yields, improve nutritional value, and lessen the need for pesticides.
Critics, however, express worries about possible threats to human health and environmental effects.
