Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised that if elected president, he will reduce government size and spending by at least GH¢30 billion.
In a similar speech to the people on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in Accra, Dr. Bawumia promised to keep the number of ministers and deputy ministers in Ghana to a maximum of 50.

During an interaction with the clergy in the Northern Region, Dr. Bawumia responded to a question about what he will do differently to bring down the ballooning cost of running government. He stated that he wants to bring down government expenditure and the size of government by at least 3% of GDP, which is about GH¢30 billion over the next four years. He also stated that he will have no more than 50 ministers, which is all.
Dr. Bawumia also committed to protect the public purse and efficiently disperse public funds to carry out socially useful and meaningful projects.
