FDA issues a warning about importing diapers for infants.

Bale diapers, another name for unhygienic infant diapers, are being imported into the United States of America, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned against them.Manufacturers, importers, and distributors have been reminded by the FDA that these diapers are prohibited from entering the nation.”The importation of unregistered, poor quality, and hygienically packaged baby diapers into the country will result in their seizure and safe disposal at a cost to the importer,” the FDA stated in a statement on Monday, April 8.The Ghana Standard Authority’s (GS 1166:2017) guidelines for single-use disposable baby diapers and the FDA’s Guideline for Registration of Medical Devices are both violated by this practice, and importers have been notified.

“The public is to note that materials used for baby diapers are tested by the Authority during the product registration process. This ensures that any dyes, skin irritants, or toxins are absent so as not to cause harm to babies. In addition, handling of bale diapers, frequently re-packed and relabelled under insanitary conditions, can cause germs to enter the genital region of a child, especially a girl child, further posing great danger to their health and well-being.”

“Imported finished baby diapers should be registered before importation, with an approved label and ready for sale. A finished registered baby diaper is a diaper that has been duly evaluated by the FDA and conforms with GS 1166:2017. All registered diapers imported into the country must be well-packaged and properly sealed to protect the product from moisture, soiling, contamination and damage during transportation, storage and distribution throughout the product’s shelf-life,” It said that.

The FDA said that while it allowed the importation of raw materials for diaper production, the importer had to have a facility licensed to manufacture diapers. Additionally, all facilities, domestic and foreign, involved in diaper manufacturing were subject to inspections for Good Manufacturing Practices, which came with fees.

It declared its dedication to collaborating with the GRA (Customs Division) to guarantee the safety and compliance of disposable baby diapers sold in the market.

The FDA urged people to buy only baby diapers that are FDA-registered in order to protect infants from the risk of illnesses.
