Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has received official endorsement from the National Executive Committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to run as the party’s running mate alongside flagbearer John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 general elections.
John Mahama announced his choice for running mate last week, and the party has now firmly backed him for the upcoming election.
Interestingly, this is Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s second term in a row serving as the running mate; she did the same thing in the 2020 election.
Mr. Mahama has chosen to keep the former Education Minister in place, despite rumors about other possible candidates including retired police commissioner Nathan Kofi Boakye, economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, member of parliament for Asunafo Eric Opoku, and former chief of staff to former president Mahama Julius Debrah.
On February 27, 2024, the NDC leader formally presented the party’s Council of Elders with his candidacy for running mate.
The party’s general secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, expressed confidence in the selected running mate, noting that she will complement John Mahama’s vision to “Build Ghana We Want together” by contributing significant experience, expertise, and dedication to the campaign.Kwetey expressed appreciation to the party’s adherents for their steadfast devotion and support, highlighting the group’s progress toward a better future for Ghana.
