Following his collapse on Wednesday during the 67th Independence anniversary celebrations in Koforidua, Eastern Region, a military officer of the Ghana Air Force has been officially declared deceased.
The officer and 66 other participants in the parade passed out, and the on-site doctors provided emergency care to them.
After that, eight people were taken to the Eastern Regional Hospital in order to receive additional care.
Sources for Citi News from the Eastern Regional Hospital and the Regional Ambulance Service attest to the military officer’s declining health, which ultimately resulted in his untimely death.
The Local Organizing Committee said it is actively working on informing the military high command about the tragic loss and expressed its deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident.
In the meantime, on Wednesday, March 6, 72 people lost their lives during the 67th Independence Parade at Tamale Jubilee Park.
Students, military personnel, and soldiers were among those who fell; it is believed that they were severely dehydrated due to the day’s extreme weather.
It is thought that the staff and students may have collapsed because they stood in the intense sun for hours.
Yakubu Amin Abukari, the northern regional director of the Ghana Red Cross Society, reported that all 72 patients were revived as part of the paramedic team assigned to provide first aid during the regional Independence Day procession.
