Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minority Leader, has expressed sadness over the death of his colleague MP for Ejisu and Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah.
Expressing his deep shock at the unexpected loss, the Minority Leader stated that a comprehensive statement would be issued later to address and provide additional information about the tragic event.
He made the brief statement as he was on his way to a National Executives Committee meeting to discuss John Mahama’s running mate announcement.
According to family sources, the 45-year-old MP passed away after a brief illness.
He left behind a wife and six children.
John Ampontuah Kumah, also known as Lawyer John Kumah, lives in Ejisu, in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. His constituents describe him as a man of integrity who focuses on job creation and instills hope in both young and old.
He was the founder and Managing Director of Majak Associates Ltd, a building and construction firm with projects throughout Ghana.
After becoming a lawyer, he founded Aduaprokye Chambers and served as its managing partner until the President appointed him CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) in 2017.
During his tenure at NEIP, he trained 45,000 start-ups and supported 10,000 beneficiaries through the Presidential Business Support Programme. This resulted in job creation for youth across the country.
He has over 17 years of continuous work and leadership experience, demonstrating his creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness in creating jobs, promoting entrepreneurship, and assisting youth development.
He was named the most Efficient and Prominent Government Appointee in 2018 and one of President Akufo Addo’s top 20 Most Humble and Respectful Appointees in 2019.
He has been a loyal member of the NPP since 1992, working at the grassroots level for the party. He was the founder of the Young Patriots, the NPP’s youth political activist and pressure group.
He served on the National People’s Party’s Communication Team.
In fulfillment of promises made to his constituents in Ejisu, he successfully solicited and secured significant funding to carry out several infrastructure and job creation projects in the constituency.
