Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a senior Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has suggested that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, would be the best candidate to be Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate.
According to Dr. Asah-Asante, Dr. Opoku Prempeh is the best choice for running mate because he has proven to be exceptionally competent in a variety of roles.
In an interview, Dr. Asah-Asante expressed optimism that Dr. Opoku Prempeh would improve Dr. Bawumia’s chances of winning in 2024.
He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia ensures a careful decision-making process by acknowledging the advantages and strengths the Energy Minister brings to the table.
“As for me, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is number one. In his area of work, he has demonstrated that he has what it takes to lead anytime the call comes and all that. So he will be Dr Bawumia’s top choice for his running mate,”
He stated.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia secured the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer post on November 4, 2023, establishing the framework for the forthcoming December elections.
Although Dr. Bawumia has not yet formally announced his running mate for the upcoming elections, pundits have been busy conjecturing about possible contenders.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. John Kumah, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Joseph Osei Owusu, and renowned clergyman and former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Prof. Opoku Onyinah, are among those who are often cited.
Furthermore, prominent candidates for Dr. Bawumia’s running mate include Communications Minister Ursula Owusu Ekulful and Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare.
