In order to help people plan their lives, the Minority in Parliament has called on the Ghanaian Electricity Company to release a schedule for the ongoing blackouts, or “Dumsor,” as soon as possible.
John Jinapor, the Yapei Kusawgu member of parliament, told journalists in parliament that the government’s persistent and willful denials that there was no load shedding could not continue.
“We are reliably informed that dumsor will continue today at 12:00 and it’s only fair that Ghanaians are made aware,”
stated Mr. Jinapor.
The minority energy spokesperson claimed that because of budgetary limitations, the government cannot buy enough fuel to run some of the thermal plants, which causes problems with generation.
“The best this government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his vice Dr Mahamudu Bawumia can do is to publish the schedule of the ongoing dumsor, so people can plan their lives,”
He stated.
In the meantime, a GHc23 million debt caused the electricity supply to Parliament and Job 600, the MPs’ office complex, to be cut off on Thursday.
The disconnection was carried out by the National Taskforce after efforts to collect the outstanding arrears proved fruitless.
The disconnect is a component of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) task force’s ongoing “Operation Zero Balance” program.
This initiative’s main objective is to collect unpaid debts from a variety of clients; in this instance, Parliament House and Job 600 were singled out because of their sizeable debt.
