Regardless of the result, my wife deserves state honor—Afua Asantewaa’s husband.

Kofi Aduonum, the spouse of Afua Asantewaa, has made a request to the state to honor his wife by renaming a portion of Akwaaba Village, the site of her unsuccessful Sing-A-Thon attempt.
He clarified that since his wife has been instrumental in advancing Ghana, it was only fitting that her contributions be recognized.

”Akwaaba Village is a perfect name, but I think it is high time we honoured my wife, Asantewaa. They should give her a space, maybe Asantewaa’s stage or Asantewaa’s corner.

He was hopeful that people would come to the location to find out more about the historic occasion that attracted attention from all across the world.
“It will serve as a tourist site. Those who watched it on TV, anytime they visit Accra, will visit it and know where the lady performed. It is a personal appeal, but I believe it should be considered”.
This appeal was filed in response to the Guinness World Records announcement that Afua Asantewaa’s attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual was unsuccessful.
