Adesope Olajide attacks Grammys following Tyla’s victory against Davido and Burna Boy.

Adesope Olajide, a well-known Nigerian media personality located in the United Kingdom, has sharply attacked the Grammys, accusing the Recording Academy of abusing Africa’s people, culture, and musicians for commercial purposes.

Olajide pointed to Tyla from South Africa receiving the “Best African Music Performance” award over Burna Boy and Davido as proof of the Grammys’ disconnect with African mainstream music. He called for a boycott, expressing displeasure with the organization’s perceived lack of knowledge and enthusiasm for African culture.
Tyla’s single ‘Water’ reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 in November following its release in July 2023. It’s presently at number 11 and continues to gain popularity.
