Osei Bonsu Amoah, the MP for the Akuapem South Constituency, has withdrawn from the Saturday, January 27, parliamentary primary.
The well-known O.B. Amoah had previously stated that he would not run for a fourth term as the Member of Parliament for Akuapen South. However, he changed his mind and accepted nomination papers to run for the position again.
Frank Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem South, Eric Samuel Annor-Mensah, and Kwame Ofori-Gyau are among the other prominent candidates in the primaries.
But according to reports, O.B. Amoah decided to run because of signs that MCE Frank Aidoo was going to do so, and since the rules state that the MCE cannot run when an MP is already running for office.
According to sources, O.B. Amoah’s calculated action was to set off clauses requiring the resignation of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives two years in advance. This may have resulted in Frank Aidoo’s disqualification, and he eventually withdrew to allow his assistant to run.
Mr. OB Amoah stated in a letter obtained by Citi News that he would not be moving further with his desire to run for office again.
“I write to inform you that I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for the election of a Parliamentary Candidate for the General Elections in 2024 in the Akuapcm South constituency.
“I respectfully request that in accordance with the Public Elections Regulations, 2016, C.I. 94, my name should be deleted on the ballot paper for the election. I am most grateful and count on your cooperation.
