Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has characterized Ghana’s performance in the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon as the worst of his career.
Ghana went out of the 2021 campaign without a win, including a shocking 2-3 loss to the Comoros.
He mentioned this in a post-game news conference after Ghana fell 1-2 to Cape Verde in its first game of the 2023 AFCON, which is being held in Cote D’Ivoire.
Djiku was voted Man of the Match despite losing, because to his outstanding effort, which featured a goal and two goal-saving blocks.

After losing to Cape Verde, Ghana needs a win against Egypt on Thursday, January 18, to improve its prospects of moving to the next round, and Djiku wants to avoid repeating the 2021 experience.
“I was in the team during the last AFCON, our elimination in the first round remains the worst memory of my career and I don’t want to relive that.”
Egypt tied 2-2 with Mozambique in their AFCON Group B opener.
