At the Agorkpo general area, in the early hours of Saturday, December 16, 2023, between 3 and 8 am, the Ada Foah Detachment of the Riverine Command of the Ghana Navy apprehended a canoe accused of transporting packages of items thought to be marijuana. On Friday, December 15, 2023, the Detachment took action based on intelligence obtained during nighttime foot patrols.
According to a statement from the Ghanaian Armed Forces, the Detachment set up ambush at two sites starting at three in the morning in order to wait for the canoes to advance. The first Ambush Team saw three of the unauthorized canoeists moving quickly past their station at around four in the morning.

The first team of three guys pursued and intercepted the third boat because, regrettably, the suspects did not go toward the main Ambush Team as planned. After a fight with the naval forces, the three suspects in the third boat dove into the river and fled, leaving the canoe and its belongings behind.
After a chase, the main Ambush Team was unable to capture the remaining two boats as they fled towards the estuary. 45 bags of suspected marijuana that had not yet been weighed or priced were seized by the Detachment.
The seized objects have been sent to the Tema Naval Base for additional examination.
