Pappy Kojo, a Ghanaian rapper, sparked controversy with his recent remark on the Grammy Awards, claiming ignorance of Ghanaians submitting for Grammy nominations.
Pappy Kojo expressed astonishment in an interview with Ameyaw TV that Ghanaian artists were being considered for Grammy nominations.
”I didn’t even know Ghanaians have reached where we get nominated for Grammys, I don’t know. I’m just saying because you know when it comes to Grammys it’s always Nigerians, they always mention Nigerians, I don’t even know Ghanaians it’s our turn,” Pappy Kojo said during the interview.
The rapper then made a daring claim, claiming that Nigerians have always ruled the Grammy Awards. He was skeptical about Ghanaians making an effect on Grammy nominations, saying,
“Let’s be honest, I didn’t know because it’s been the Nigerians, for the past I don’t know when, and I didn’t know that it’s our turn.”
Furthermore, Pappy Kojo explained his prior comment about winning a Grammy for Ghana, adding that he wished to accomplish it for his mother, who is of Italian origin, rather than for the entire Ghanaian population.
The rapper’s comments generated conversations and arguments inside the music business and among fans, with some disagreeing with his views on the Grammy Awards.
