On Sunday, October 29, 2023, a deacon of the Ghanaian Church of Pentecost was abducted during a church service, and members of the Johannesburg branch were looted of their goods at gunpoint.

In order to guarantee the prompt and secure release and return of the CoP deacon, the Ghanaian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, promised to collaborate with the Church of Pentecost and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
“The Mission is presently working with the Church in cooperation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to ensure the speedy and safe release and return of the victim to his family,” the Ghanaian High Commission stated in a statement on Monday.
Please take notice that the South African Police are putting their whole attention on the situation and are making every effort to guarantee our compatriot’s safe return.

Ghana’s Mission in South Africa and the Church of Pentecost have not yet formally released a statement about the most recent events.
