Adu Boahen was involved in influence peddling rather than criminal activity – OSP

3 Min Read

Following an exposé against former Finance Ministry Minister Charles Adu Boahen by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tigereye PI business, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has ended its investigation into the corruption charges made against him.
According to OSP’s report, the matter has been closed since, notwithstanding Adu Boahen’s influence peddling, there was no genuine criminal behavior that the Special Prosecutor’s office could have taken action on.

“Though the conduct of Mr. Adu Boahen amounts to trading in influence or influence peddling, which is closely associated with corruption, there is no actual criminal prohibition of his acts in respect of which the OSP has a mandate to further act.”
“On that reckoning, the Special Prosecutor directs the closure, at this time, of the investigation in respect of allegations of corruption and corruption-related offences involving Charles Adu Boahen contained in the investigative documentary titled Galamsey Economy published by Tiger Eye P.I. The investigation may be re-opened should the circumstances and further facts so dictate.”

Background Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of State in the Finance Ministry, was removed as a result of Tiger Eye PI investigations into influence peddling.
Tiger Eye PI investigations reveal that Mr. Boahen informed undercover reporters that investors may pay $200,000 for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s appearance.
As a result, the Vice President distanced himself from Mr. Boahen’s purported actions.
In a Facebook post from November 2022, Dr. Bawumia stated that if the revelations were true, Mr. Boahen’s job would be unsustainable and that he should be fired and the matter looked into.

President Akufo-Addo dismissed the minister shortly after and forwarded the allegations to the Special Prosecutor for additional examination.
Mr. Boahen stated that an attempt was made to trap him in 2018 and refuted the allegations of corruption in the narrative.
First published in the New Crusading Guide, the disclosures came before an exposé on illicit mining was shown.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, stated in a statement on November 16, 2022, that his office has immediately started looking into the activities of Mr. Adu Boahen and anybody else who may be connected.
