Udogie was at the centre of Diogo Jota’s second-half red card after being adjudged by referee Simon Hooper to have been fouled for both of the Portugalinternational’s yellow cards.

The 20-year-old was then targeted with a number of messages of abuse following the Premier League game on Instagram with the club now working to identify those responsible.

Meta have been contacted for comment.

A club statement read: “We are disgusted at the racist messages directed towards Destiny Udogie on social media following Saturday’s game against Liverpool.

“We will work with the Premier League and, where possible, take action against any individual we are able to identify.

“We stand with you, Destiny.”

Tottenham ran out 2-1 winners thanks to Joel Matip’s stoppage-time own goal. That came after Cody Gakpo had earlier equalised following Son Heung-min’s opener in the first-half.

Spurs return to Premier League action away at Luton Town on Saturday.
