Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo has weighed in on the debate over the rising cost of dialysis treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, highlighting the need of the National Health Insurance Scheme covering such procedures.
Dumelo’s call comes after a widely circulated social media image revealed that the cost of dialysis had risen from GH380 to GH765, a 101 percent increase.

In a tweet, the prospective Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon district on the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC] ticket questioned why dialysis treatment isn’t covered by the NHIS, stating that such coverage is both necessary and attainable.
“Dialysis treatment should be included under the NHIS. It can be done,” he posted.
