President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned two Boundary Class Ships and an oil spill detection ship for the Western Naval Command and the Ghana Maritime Authority, respectively.
The US government contributed the Boundary Class Ships and multi-purpose oil spillage detector ships to assist the two security institutions in providing proper protection and safety for Ghana’s territorial waters.
While praising the US government for its assistance in strengthening Ghana’s marine security, the President stated that his administration is dedicated to safeguarding Ghana’s blue economy.
Engineer Michael Kwaw Nunoo, Western Regional Marine Surveyor of the Ghana Maritime Authority, spoke about the efficiency that the multi-purpose vessel will bring to the Ghana Maritime Authority’s job.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has announced a 70% increase in the farm gate price of cocoa beans for the new cocoa season, from GH800 to GH1,308 per bag.
According to the President, this is the largest growth in West Africa in the previous 15 years.
The President made the remark during the commencement of the 2023/2024 cocoa season in Tepa, Ashanti Region.
The surge occurs after cocoa farmers have recently increased their requests for an increase in cocoa prices in order to reduce the predominance of smuggling and the situation in which cocoa farmers surrender their fields to illegal miners.
