COP One of the top police officials accused in the attempt to depose the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has maintained his belief that the present IGP is the worst in Ghana’s history.
He reinforced his stance again when he testified before the parliamentary committee investigating the viral recording in which several top police officials are heard discussing the ouster of the IGP with the former Northern regional leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bugri Naabu.

“I can tell you that for the 31 years that I have been in the Police Service, this IGP is the worst IGP,” On Friday, September 1, COP Mensah informed the committee.
He further stated that he had informed the IGP on multiple times about incidents in the Police Service that were affecting the morale of officers, but his advice were entirely ignored.
COP Mensah told the committee on Thursday that the IGP’s leadership style has resulted to a drop in morale among many police officers.
“Dampare is not managing the Police Service well and the majority of police officers are not happy. You can do your investigations. You can call the police officers underground and they will tell you,” COP Mensah said.

On Thursday, COP Mensah acknowledged to being a politician and working for the New Patriotic Party.
His remarks match similar sentiments caught on a leaked video in which he is heard telling Bugri Naabu that the IGP must be eliminated if the NPP wants to win the 2024 elections.
COP Mensah, on the other hand, adamantly denied the tape’s legitimacy.
He stated that the audio had been doctored and did not adequately reflect the content of the original discussion with Bugri Naabu, former NPP Northern Regional Chairman.
COP Mensah stated that he was unable to verify certain facts on the recording.
