Richter Nii Armah Amarfio, an executive member of the National Fisheries Association’s interim committee, says the youth of Tema Manhean are outraged about the strange death of two fisherman in the area.
In an interview with Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Thursday, he claimed the youth were upset over the occurrence since the fisherman had gone to sea to execute an exercise as part of the Homowo festival preparations, but their lifeless bodies were brought to the shore.

“The youth are not happy. They believe that this is custom and that an attempt to enforce the closed season led to this,” he added.
Mr. Amarfio, on the other hand, ensured that the incident will have no impact on the Homowo festival.
Meanwhile, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, MP for Tema East Constituency, has urged for an investigation into the situation.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has asked the public to reject media claims about an alleged collision between a GPHA boat and a fishing boat on Thursday, July 27, 2023, which resulted in the regrettable deaths of two fishermen.
The GPHA explained in a statement signed and issued by Abena Serwaa Opoku Fosu, Marketing and Public Affairs Manager, that there was no accident between the Security Patrol Boat and any fishing boat.

“Instead, the incident involved the Port Control Station receiving a distress call on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at approximately 0030 hours from MV. SEASPAN DUBAI. The distress call was for assistance to ward off several fishing boats that had surrounded their vessel.”

The GPHA confirmed unequivocally that no direct touch or collision occurred between the GPHA boat and the fishing boat in question. The GPHA was not involved in the regrettable deaths of the two fisherman, according to the statement.
