A Tamale region Court has granted bail to 21 suspects arrested in a repeat ethnic dispute in Lukula, a hamlet in the Savannah Region’s Daboya region.
On Friday, June 2, police arrested 118 people in connection with a conflict in Lukula that they say was caused by land issues.
The accused were sent to the Northern Regional Police Command for further investigation. 87 of the suspects were released following the screening.
The remaining 21 suspects have been remanded in police custody and are scheduled to appear in court today, Monday, June 5, 2023.
They were charged with four charges total: conspiracy to commit a crime, rioting with weapons, inflicting unlawful damage, and conspiracy to commit a crime with the intent to cause unlawful damage.
The defense attorney asked for bail for the suspects pending trial.
His Worship Amadu Issifu, the sitting judge, granted bail in the amount of GH6,000 apiece, with one surety to be justified.
The case has been postponed until June 23, 2023.
