The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, is urging the two unsuccessful candidates in the party’s recently concluded presidential and parliamentary primaries to work with him to take back control of the government from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a tweet, Mr. Mahama acknowledged getting calls congratulating him on his victory from Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a former finance minister, and Kojo Bonsu, a former mayor of Kumasi.

“Last night [May 15] Dr. Kwabena Duffuor called to congratulate me for emerging victorious in the May 13 NDC presidential primaries. Mayor Kojo Bonsu also congratulated me earlier on Saturday. As stated in my acceptance speech in Tamale, the internal competition for flagbearer is over. Cooperation is what we need to build the Ghana we want together,” Mr. Mahama posted on his Twitter handle on May 16.

“We must flip the coin from competition to cooperation. We need cooperation to bald a better Ghana and a better NDC I am, therefore, calling for cooperation among all elected parliamentary candidates and your aspirants and supporters,” he advised.

In the weekend’s NDC primaries, the former president received 98.9% of the votes.
Up until Dr. Kwabena Duffuor withdrew a few hours before the primary elections on Saturday, May 13, he was running alongside Kojo Bonsu and Dr. Duffuor.
Dr. Duffuor identified issues with the photo book and the voter’s list.
Kojo Bonsu praised Mr. Mahama for easily winning the race for the party’s flagbearership before the Electoral Commission officially declared his victory.
