At the Miotso Campus, the Law Faculty of Central University hosted a public colloquium on “Property Rights of Spouses in Ghana” on Friday, May 5, 2023.
Members of the Dawhenyah, Prampram, and Ningo Communities were invited to the celebration.
Delegates from the Ningo Traditional Council, including Hon. Al Latif Tetteh Amanor, Nene Manor Ohuyerfer IV, Simppie Ningo Traditional Area, and Asafoatse Okotobijia III, Awula Wem Asafoatse, were present.
The discussion of “Property Rights of Spouses in Ghana” covered four areas, including Ghana’s Marriage Laws, Property Rights of Spouses Upon Divorce, Property Rights of Spouses Upon Death, and Reforms brought about by the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036).

Although the Faculty supported Act 1036’s advancements, it also urged the Government to enact the proposed Property Rights of Spouses Bill.
Dr. Josiah De-Graft Quansah, the acting dean of the law faculty, served as the event’s chairman. Speakers included faculty members Beryl Sunkwa- Mills, Susanna Afutu, Kwasi Opare-Wiredu, and Justice Gilbert Ayisi-Addo.
Students from the law school and other members of the university community were also there. For the advantage of the Adangme speakers in attendance, the presentations were translated into their language.
The Colloquium, which was arranged as part of the University’s corporate social responsibility (also known as extension services in academia), was well appreciated by the attendees. The locals can anticipate the faculty’s annual public education event, which will be held for the public.
