The parliamentary minority has announced that it will take action to guarantee that a bipartisan investigation into the Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng report is carried out.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader in the House, claims that his group will try to resolve this matter in Ghanaians’ best interests. This follows requests from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a public investigation of Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s scathing galamsey report, which accuses some officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party.Dr. Ato Forson stated to the media that the Minority supports the need for the investigation.
“This House has been urged by a vast majority of our citizens to institute a bi-partisan probe into this serious matter. We, the Minority support this call and shall take steps accordingly to trigger the necessary processes for an independent probe into this matter. So in the coming days, don’t be surprised if you hear the NDC Minority starting a process to constitute an independent probe into Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report,” he said
A report on illicit mining (galamsey) operations was written in 2021 and then given to the Chief of Staff by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, the former head of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on illicit Mining (IMCIM).
He accused some government representatives of meddling with his work or engaging in galamsey in the report.
In April 2023, the study was later disclosed to the public.
Many of the people named in the report who were indicted have denied the accusations.
