Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, CEO of the National Enterprise and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has expressed concern about how participation in various nighttime prayer sessions, especially Alpha Hour, is affecting women.
These remarks were delivered by Mr. Ofosu Nkansah as he provided a breakdown analysis of how these trends effect women, particularly those who are working-class women.
He bemoaned how women who are already worn out from work tasks return home to take care of household responsibilities and then remain up all night praying on Facebook.
Asking why these prayer meetings are generally arranged until midnight, the NEIP CEO said such arrangements simply generate what he called as ‘unnecessary stress’ for women.
“Alpha Hour and other midnight Prayers sessions … Our ladies (mostly) close from work tired, they will keep wake and pray from 12 to 1 am or beyond. Wake up at dawn to do house chores and prepare their kids for School. Just adding more stress to their lives. Unnecessary stress, I think. Why does it have to be after 12 midnight?” On Facebook, he posted.
The public’s responses to his statements, which have subsequently received over 600 likes and 900 comments, are varied.
But some people have criticized him for what they call his allegation as ‘crying more than the bereaved’.
Some opponents have questioned why people who spend the entire night “partying and clubbing” are not reprimanded but are quick to blame Christians for skipping sleep in order to pray in an effort to support their positions.
