Today marks the fifth anniversary of the death of Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, a.k.a. Ebony Reigns, in a horrific car accident in Mankranso, Ashanti Region.
Many appreciated the prominent dancehall musician when she was dominating the music scene until her untimely demise on a frigid Thursday morning on February 8, 2018.Unfortunately, her assistant and close companion Franklina Yaa Nkansah Kuri, as well as soldier Atsu Vondee, were killed in the crash.
The driver was the only survivor of the tragic crash.
She also died eight days before her 21st birthday.
Bullet from Ruff n Smooth, a singer and entrepreneur, discovered Ebony and signed her to his Ruff Town record company.
In December 2015, she released her first single, “Dancefloor,” along with a video and music.
The song became a radio smash, and she was nominated for “unsung” at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards. Ebony debuted her major hit single “Kupe” in March 2016.
Ruff Town Records and Midas Touch Inc. signed her.
At the 2018 Ghana Music Awards, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, the dancehall performer was crowned Artist of the Year.
The late musician Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, better known as Ebony Reigns, was the first woman to earn the event’s ultimate Accolade.
Her album Bonyfied was also named ‘Album of the Year,’ and her song Sponsor was named ‘Afro Pop Song of the Year.
