According to Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the head of the health committee in parliament, the government won’t be able to finish building all the hospitals envisioned for the “Agenda 111” project by 2024.
The administration, according to him, would be unable to meet the 2024 deadline. Sincerely, I don’t think all 111 hospitals, seven regional hospitals, and two psychiatric institutions could be completed by 2024. The situation is illogical. But it makes logical to claim that 89 of them have begun and if even 30 of them are finished in two years. This is a legacy. According to him, all of these districts will have hospitals if the NPP succeeds in inheriting itself.
The MP for Effiduase Asokore said that the project shouldn’t be politicized because its failure to succeed serves no government. He commended the government for beginning 89 of the projects and said, “If in 4 years we are done with 20 or 30, this is not to be politicized, it is better than none.”
In the “Agenda 111” project, 101 district hospitals, 6 regional hospitals in newly created regions, 1 regional hospital in the Western Region, 2 psychiatric hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale, and a renovated Accra Psychiatric Hospital will all be designed, purchased, constructed, equipped, and put into service.
The goal of the project is to improve the availability of healthcare infrastructure and financial accessibility for all Ghanaians to get high-quality healthcare services under the National Health Insurance Scheme.
