The Chelsea forward left England’s camp in Qatar for personal reasons, which were revealed after England’s victory over Senegal on Sunday.

Raheem Sterling was forced to withdraw from England’s World Cup last-16 victory over Senegal and return to the United Kingdom, according to an official statement.

Multiple reports, however, have now confirmed Sterling’s decision to leave the Three Lions’ camp in Qatar was made after armed robbers broke into his UK home the night before England’s round of 16 matches against Senegal.

According to the Telegraph, sources close to the Chelsea forward described him as “shaken” by the burglary that occurred on Saturday night while some of his family members were present.

Gareth Southgate confirmed Sterling’s return to the UK on Sunday night, but the England manager was unsure if he would play any further part in the 2022 showpiece.
