Wizkid, a Nigerian Afro-beats icon, has made history by becoming the first musician to win the American Music Awards’ Favorite Afrobeats Artiste category.
The Favorite Afrobeats Artiste category was added for the first time for the event’s 50th anniversary, which took place on Sunday, November 2, 2022, at Microsoft Theater in California.
Wizkid had to fight for the innovative prize against other Nigerian musicians such as Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML, and Tems.
avorite Hip-Hop Song went to Future’s “Wait for You,” on which Temilade Openiyi of Nigeria, better known by her stage as Tems, worked with Drake.
