According to the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA), SpaceX is applying for a license to launch satellite internet services in the nation. Subject to regulatory approval, Starlink plans to begin operations in Tanzania between January and March. Only Nigeria and Mozambique have given Starlink permission to conduct business in Africa.

Global firms are starting to express interest in the Tanzanian space-related industry as the country pursues its efforts to roll out 5G services in each of its cities. A license to introduce broadband-from-space services in Tanzania under the Starlink name has reportedly been requested by Elon Musk-owned SpaceX from the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA). The TCRA will decide on the license by the proper procedure established by the agency, according to The Citizen.

The Starlink Company had applied, according to TCRA Director General Jabiri Bakari, who spoke with The Citizen. “Yes, I am aware that the corporation had made an application through a portal,” Dr. Bakari responded when asked if he was aware of the Starlink Corporation’s planned visit.

Subject to regulatory approval, SpaceX plans to begin Starlink operations in Tanzania between January and March 2023. Only Nigeria and Mozambique have given Starlink permission to conduct business in Africa, according to the company’s website. This was accomplished after gaining legal permission from both countries.
