For failing to establish national and regional offices around the nation, the Electoral Commission (EC) has revoked the registration certificates of 17 political parties. After giving them until October 20, 2022, to justify not having their registration deleted, it was noted that the parties had failed to set up national and regional offices throughout the nation.
Among them are the National Reform Party (NRP), the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), the United Progressive Party (UPP), the United Front Party (UFP), the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), and the Reform Patriotic Democrats. Akwasi Addae, sometimes known as Odike, is the leader of the UPP(RPD).
Other parties in Ghana include the Ghana National Party (GNP), Democratic People’s Party (DPP), United Development System Party (UDSP), Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere (EGLE), Yes People’s Party (YPP), United Ghana Movement (UGM), New Vision Party (NVP), and Ghana Democratic-Republican Party (GDRP) (GNP). The United Love Party, People’s Action Party, United Renaissance Party, and Power Unity Party make up the remaining parties (ULP).
However, it gave them until October 20, 2022, to provide evidence as to why their registrations should not be canceled in a statement signed and published by the EC, which stated that its conduct complied with Section 15 (3) (c) of the Political Parties Act 574.
It claimed that between May 16 and June 9, 2022, the legally mandated electoral authority conducted a statewide inspection of all registered political parties’ offices, and that it was discovered that those political parties lacked offices at the national and regional levels.
According to the statement, the Commission warned political parties before the termination and requested that they comply with the Political Parties Act 2000’s criteria by presenting the names of their national and regional offices to the EC.
