Klopp responds to recent criticism of the Reds by calling former Liverpool star Hamann “a fantastic source”

Dietmar Hamann, a former midfielder for Liverpool, reacted sarcastically to Jurgen Klopp’s assertion that the Reds had been lacking “a spark” this year. Before his team’s Champions League match against Rangers on Wednesday, Klopp was questioned about remarks made by Hamann following Sunday’s Premier League loss to Arsenal. The former Reds star said Liverpool were “flat,” “lacking a spark,” and that Klopp might lose his job if results did not soon improve. Klopp stated to the media: “Who said that? Oh great, a fantastic source! well respected everywhere!”

When informed that Hamann had played for Liverpool in the past, Klopp replied: “That doesn’t give you the right to say what you want, especially when you have no idea. I actually think Didi Hamann doesn’t deserve that you use his phrase to ask me a question. Do me a favor and ask your own question. Without the word ‘spark’!”

Hamann has consistently criticized Klopp since the German took over as manager in 2015, but he is by no means the only former player to voice his opinion about Liverpool in light of their recent string of ineffective performances. The Reds have only won four of their 12 games this season in the Premier League and Champions League, and after Sunday’s defeat at the Emirates, they are 14 points behind league-leading Arsenal.
